The Song Dynasty was divided into the Northern Song (960–1127 CE) and Southern Song (1127–1279 CE). The Northern Song fell in 1127 when its capital Bianjing was conquered by the Jurchen Jin dynasty during the Jingkang Incident. The Southern Song ended in 1279 after the Yuan dynasty’s Mongol forces defeated its navy in the Battle of Yamen; Prime Minister Lu Xiufu carried the young emperor and drowned at sea, marking the dynasty’s collapse under Yuan rule.
