Historical Overview
Meiling’s history dates back over 1,300 years. The Tang Dynasty (618–907) constructed the Meiling Tunnel to facilitate trade and military movements between northern and southern China. During the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), the area became a retreat for scholars and officials, with temples and pavilions built to honor its natural splendor. In the 20th century, Meiling gained prominence as a revolutionary base during the Anti-Japanese War (1937–1945), with Communist leaders using its remote terrain for strategic planning.
