Xiamen Science and Technology Museum

Xiamen Science and Technology Museum

Xiamen Science and Technology Museum, a futuristic hub of innovation and discovery, stands as Southeast China’s premier interactive science center. Opened in 2007, it blends cutting-edge technology with hands-on exhibits, making science accessible to all ages. Spanning 13,000 square meters across four floors, the museum explores themes like aerospace, robotics, and marine ecology. With 400+ interactive displays, a dome theater, and a children’s science park, it’s a playground for curiosity—where visitors can launch rockets, program robots, or dive into a virtual ocean.

Historical Overview

Founded in 2007 as part of Xiamen’s “Science City” initiative, the museum underwent a 2018 expansion doubling its size. Key milestones include hosting the 2015 China Youth Robotics Championship and launching the “Science on Wheels” outreach program in 2020. In 2022, it earned the “National Popular Science Education Base” title, solidifying its role as a regional STEM leader. The museum’s design merges Xiamen’s maritime heritage with tech-forward aesthetics, featuring a solar-panel roof and a LEED Gold certification.

Structural Layout

The museum is divided into four themed zones:

Exploration Hall (1F): Space exploration, physics puzzles, and a earthquake simulator.

Creation Lab (2F): Robotics workshops, 3D printing stations, and coding zones.

Ocean World (3F): A 500㎡ aquarium, submarine simulators, and coral reef dioramas.

Children’s Paradise (4F): Water-play areas, giant bubbles, and a “Little Scientist” role-play village.

Key facilities include the 230-seat Dome Theater, a outdoor rocket garden, and a gift shop with DIY science kits.

Major Attractions

Space Odyssey: Pilot a Mars rover and experience weightlessness in a zero-gravity chamber.

RoboTheater: Watch AI-powered dancers perform synchronized routines daily at 11 AM and 3 PM.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
