Three Gorges Dam Tourist Area
The Three Gorges Dam, a monumental engineering feat on the Yangtze River in Yichang, Hubei Province, is the world’s largest hydroelectric power station. Completed in 2009 after 17 years of construction, the dam spans 2.3 kilometers and rises 185 meters, creating a 660-kilometer-long reservoir. It generates over 100 billion kWh of electricity annually, powers 10% of China, and controls flooding along the Yangtze. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (as part of the "Three Gorges of the Yangtze River" cultural landscape), it symbolizes China’s technological ambition and environmental stewardship.
