Reflection of Yellow Cloth

Reflection of Yellow Cloth

Huangbu Reflection (Yellow Cloth Reflection) is a iconic scenic view along the Li River near Yangshuo, Guilin, celebrated for its breathtaking mirror-like reflection of karst peaks on the river’s calm surface. Named after a legend involving a yellow cloth draped over the water, this spot is best known for its pristine clarity, where lush green hills, blue skies, and occasional fishing boats create a near-perfect symmetrical image. As one of the most photographed landscapes in China—featured on the 20-yuan RMB banknote—Huangbu Reflection epitomizes Guilin’s serene beauty and has become a must-see destination for travelers and photographers seeking the essence of southern China’s karst scenery.

Introduction & Historical Significance
The Reflection of Yellow Cloth, immortalized on China’s 20 RMB banknote, is a masterpiece of nature’s artistry along the Li River in Yangshuo County, Guilin. This ethereal landscape—where emerald waters mirror the jagged karst peaks of Huangbu Beach—has captivated poets, artists, and travelers for centuries. Formed over millennia by tectonic uplift and water erosion, the site embodies Guilin’s motto “Guilin’s landscape is the best under heaven,” blending geological grandeur with cultural symbolism. As a UNESCO-recognized South China Karst site, it represents the harmonious convergence of human history and natural splendor.

Geological & Visual Layout
The vista unfolds across a 1.5km stretch of the Li River, framed by:

  • Karst Formations: Towering limestone pinnacles like Nine Horses Fresco Hill and Apple Hill rise from the riverbed, their reflections shimmering in the crystal-clear waters.
  • Yellow Cloth Beach: A smooth, sun-lit sandbar resembling a "yellow cloth" after which the site is named, visible at low water levels and serving as a natural foreground.

Shopping on Nanjing Road in Shanghai was just amazing! It's truly the "First Commercial Street of China", where tradition and modernity blend perfectly. You can find awesome souvenirs and experience the trendy vibes in cool stores. The neon lights at night are just spectacular, shining bright like Times Square in New York. The food here is incredible too. I had a feast for my taste buds. Shanghai, I'll definitely be back!

As a solo traveler from Canada, I was nervous about navigating China alone—but this 11-day tour was PERFECT! From hiking the Great Wall at sunrise (Day 3) to gasping at the Terracotta Army (Day 5), every day delivered ‘pinch-me’ moments. The real showstopper? Zhangjiajie’s Avatar Mountains (Day 7)! Our guide made the stone pillars come alive with stories. Massive thanks for handling all logistics—bullet train tickets, entry passes, car! And the 4-star hotels surprised me.

Our 2-day Zhangjiajie tour was beyond spectacular! As someone who’s visited Beijing and Shanghai for work, this trip revealed China’s wild, magical heart. Day 1 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park felt like stepping onto Pandora—I’m a huge Avatar fan, and Yuanjiajie’s floating peaks left me breathless. The misty pillars and lush valleys like pure movie magic! Then came Fenghuang Ancient Town, we eat dinner beside the thundering waterfall. It seems Unreal! The night views of stilt houses glowing over the river were straight from a fairy tale. For fellow Avatar lovers and adventure seekers: Don’t miss this bucket-list experience! 10/10 would return.
